Both directions of Interstate 80 were temporarily shut down around 3 p.m. on Friday for quarry blasting.

A public information officer for the Utah Highway Patrol confirmed the westbound and eastbound lanes in Parleys Canyon were closed for about 10 to 15 minutes.

Traffic at one point backed up past Lambs Canyon, and it was estimated to take an hour to reach the Salt Lake City International Airport — about 20 miles away.

Delays continued into the early evening as vehicles made their way through the area. No accidents were reported.
