It’s now four decades for the Park City Ski and Snowboard Club’s Fourth of July 5k race, which will be held again next Thursday.

The race will go off at 8 a.m. from Payday Drive by Park City Peaks hotel, and the club is expecting their maximum 1000 participants.

The race will go up Payday then head three miles toward town to the finish line on Silver King Drive. The route has been the same for several years now.

A PCSSC spokesperson said the group is excited to see runners young and old partake in the festivities. The race can last up to two hours, a perfect lead up to the Fourth of July parade on Main Street, which begins at 11 a.m.

PCSSC is working alongside club, parent volunteers and local sponsors Cole Sport, Silver King Coffee and Intermountain Health to make sure runners have a fantastic day out on the course.

The annual race is one of the club’s largest fundraisers throughout the year. They use fundraisers to help bridge the gap between tuition fees and expenses.

PCSSC recently became one of the top ski and snowboard clubs in the nation.

“We haven’t changed a whole lot,” said PCSSC director of operations Jackie Wilkinson about the race. “The routes have a little variation, at least the last couple of years.”

Wilkinson is looking to see lots of smiling faces out next Thursday.

Many of the race’s original organizers are still involved today, including founder Phil Thompson from Industrial Supply and longtime race organizer Kathy Burke from Cole Sport. Burke has been in her role for over three decades and counting.

“It’s really great to have it be a community event,” added Wilkinson. “You see a huge variety of participants.”

“We try to get as many athletes out as we can to participate in the run or at least help volunteer.”

PCSSC believes they can raise several thousand dollars for the club next Thursday.

The race fees benefiting PCSSC will be $30 for kids 11 and under and $50 for everyone 12 and up. Registration closes at 5 p.m. next Wednesday, with no day-of registration available.

Runners will receive bibs and event t-shirts, which can both be picked up Sunday through next Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cole Sport on Park Avenue. There is also race morning pickup available from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.

As of Friday morning, there are still spots available in the race.
